opening desktop

I'm not getting any response to my last post so I'll try it differently.
If I wanted to have a program or a certain folder (like my computer) open automatically when the desktop opens how would I do it? Is there a setting for this some where in win 98se?

Make a shortcut to it and place it in START > PROGRAMS > STARTUP
Note this will delay the time your computer takes to load..
