I'm building a new PC - based on SOYO SY-K7VTA PRO mobo,
Duron 800mhz cpu, 20gig WD HD, and now trying to finally
get Windows 98R1+ installed. I now seem to have a bootable
A: 3-1/2 floppy drive, and a C: WD HD drive. I believe both
A: and C: are system disks now. C: WD HD is formatted with
a single 20gig partition.

I'm trying to load Windows 98R1, from my previous Gateway
PC I bought. I created a Win 98 Rescue Disk. I have
purchased copies of every Microsoft OS since pre Win 3.1.
Also have purchased upgrades for Win 98, Win 98,
Win ME, and most recently bought a copy of Win XP HOME OEM -
from an internet supplier that sold me a dud P4 PC but
wouldn't take back XP HOME software. I even have a new
copy of Win 3.1 in floppy form.

I'd like to load Win 98R1+ first - and run the system
with that, until Win XP HOME gets more robust with
all the drivers, etc.

I start up my new PC with a Win 98 Start Floppy in A:
drive - and it does boot up. At that point system
also knows C: drive is there. I'm not sure if BIOS
or SOYO mobo really knows "Blaster 52x CD-ROM" is
there. I put a Windows 98 CD in it - nothing happens.

How do I load my Windows 98 back into my new updated
hardware?????? Help Help

2 options: boot from floppy, and choose "boot with CDROM support", or change BIOS to first boot device=CDROM.

However, if that Win98 CD you have is a Gateway "recovery CD", it won't work in a non-gateway machine anyway.

You can install from an "upgrade" CD with no problems. Boot with CDROM support from your boot disk. Put in your "upgrade" CD, and go ahead with the setup. At some point in the install, it will ask you for a "qualifying" product, at which point you pop in whatever full version you have, such as your Win3.1 floppies. The install goes on, smooth as glass, from there.

dumb question, you are picking to boot with cdrom support in the boot menu box??
and you do see dos loading the oak brand cdrom drivers right away and the ram drive at the end of the dos operations just before you get the c:\ right?
