I'm trying to run the Windows 98 setup and when I run the setup, this comes up: "Windows setup requires 7340032 byte" and freezes. I have one partition on this 40GB HDD. I've formatted it and removed and re-added the partition, but I get the same result... Any help would be great. TIA

you did the partition with fdisk and set the primary partition to be active, right?

apparently, windows is not seeing enough disc space for the install. try booting to dos with the startup disc and type dir on c:\ and see how much space dos is reading.

I did that and there is more than enough space for it.... what else could it be??

Something has altered your Master Boot Record, in my case it was Partition Magic. Have you used a partitioning utility, and/or a multiple boot utility?

If so, get your boot disk from that utility, boot up, and go through the menu to find "Restore MBR"

Failing that, you may have to use your HDD installation utility to restore MBR. When you installed HDD, did you use EZbios? That will cause some wierd problems if it is later disabled, again, the HDD installation utility should be able to correct it.

Hope this helps. :)

running format c:/ mbr will rewrite the mbr also but you may need to run the hdd's oem program to restore if the damage is too serious. i knew i had seen that problem before but couldn't remember.
