I have a cable modem that has the activity blinking constantly and
noticeably more when not using browser. Is someone hacking me? I checked for trojans with the cleaner and had none.

Are you running a firewall program like Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/)?

While it is possible that you might being hacked and you should always take precautions to prevent that, there may be another more innocuous reason for this activity.
Remember, a cable modem system is a shared LAN segment so all broadcasts/traffic on the network are forwarded (flooded) to every other node on that network segment and your cable modem is looking all those packets and discarding ones that do not apply to that specific network address. That might be what your cable modem is reacting to.

Cable modems have been doing this since the Code Red Worm. Just run a firewall.
And if you have trouble getting on line or DNS errors, call the cable company and get their automated converter box re-authorization phone number.
