HELP!!! I am building a computer for a friend and for some reason it just shuts down automatically. It never show anything on the moniter and I have already tried swithching video cards. The light on the DVD-rom drive does not start up but the CD-RW light works. Niether of the drive bays open up either. It has an Athlon XP 1700 and it has a Gigabyte GA-7VTXHmotherborad. An antec KS282 case with an AMD certified ANtec 300W P/S (pp303X). Two evergreen case fans. Geforce 2 Ti 200 video card with the CT5880 sound chip on the motherboard. IBM deskstar GXP60. I need help. PLZ anyone.

Take Hal's advice. You've got so many things happening at once, you need to sort things out.

check you jumpers on the mb for the shutdown switch.. mis-pinning it will cause that same problem

The jumpers are good
Gigabite is very tricky when it comes to RAM and eventually XP Loaded - even with Win98 or ME it will shutdown without warning..Sot his means Check RAM then the related speeds in the bios..

The problem is likely your RAM..
remove anything that has Nova written on it & make sure the rest is the same..
