Settting Clk Speed on the Epox board

I'm just recovering from a major system failure and during the process I had to clear out CMOS and flash the BIOS. Subsequently all my BIOS setting were lost and I cannot for the life of me remember or work out how to correctly set my clk speed and FSB. I know where the settings are in the BIOS but I can't get the FSB back to 266mhz.

My chip is the AthlonXP 1500+ which should, I think, run at 266mhz but the only options I seem to have on the Clock Speed is to choose a number between 100 and 210. When I selected 210 the machine wouldn't boot at all (another clearout of CMOS!!).

The FSB is set to 100 and the multiplier is Auto. I can't work out how to get the correct setting back so that rather than see the machine boot up as
ATHLONXP 1000MHZ FSB 200 or whatever - I should instead see ATHLONXP 1500+ and FSB 266.

Can anyone with the same mobo talk me through the settings? I'd be very grateful!

There is a jumper on the board that needs set to 133.Is it set correctly?

Jumper JCK1 page 3-5, sets betweem AGP slot and edge of board. Set to 133 as edave suggested.

The weird thing is - I have never ever touched that jumper in my life, and yet - before the sys crash - it was running at the correct speed and displaying the correct FSB. :confused:

Im surprised it worked before with the jumper set to 100.But who knows,these puters can be a "strange beast"indeed.Glad to see everything worked out :)

Well you did flash your BIOS. Maybe you got one of the first ones shipped that had a problem. There was a BIOS flash to fix a problem with some of the earlier boards. I don't recall the FSB jumper being part of the problem but since it was hardware related, maybe it was affected.

Who knows! I have always had problems with the system rebooting itself randomly and I have to wonder whether that was related to an incorrect BIOS setting as a result of the wrong jumper.

I guess I'll find out in due course whether the old rebooting problem rears it's ugly head again!

The values you described (100-210) refer to FSB in hz. If you put
133 in there that will get you the 266 you are looking for. DDR ram is double data rate meaning it runs at twice your FSB.(2x133) You can overclock your
system by increasing the value placed there.When you selected 210, you were
trying to make your system run at 210hz (FSB) Unless you have the best DDR ram
installed and great cooling, the system will not boot. You'd be lucky to
get it to post.
Please excuse my rambling. Try selecting 133 for the value there.


I too have an Epox board with then same bios feature. The manual doesn't explain clearly (or at all) what values to put where in the bios. Good luck.
