The event viewer system on our NT shows that one computer has a stop error every 12 minutes. On clicking on one such event the description is as follows:

The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer WMELSO 0558 that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_DC21X41. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.

the details under each item is as follows:
Date Time Source category
everyday every 12 minutes RDR None
Event User Computer
8003 N/A Bounty

I know which computer it is but not able to identify the source of the problem. what does the above mean.?Pls advise immediately to resolve this.

Are they on the same subnet - seperated by Vlan/switch/or router?
Same subnet mask.

Many possible causes.

Make sure workstation and PDC can see eachother use ping - may be a connection problem.

Possibly one system is set to full duplex while the other does not support that.

Possible the one of the systems have more than 1 IP address

Could be a bad wire or faulty hub too.

Can always disable the browser on the workstation.

the "computer browser" service runs by default on all win nt workstations and servers. basically, this service builds the listing of computers you can view in network neighborhood. (or something like that, check the M$ site for more detailed info)

the master browser maintains the permanent list and keeps all systems up to date on available systems. sometimes a workstation will come up and believe it is the master browser. usually i just smack it around to show it whose boss. but seriously... disable the computer browser service on this system. i think M$ recommends disabling this service in large nt environments and making sure it is only running on pdc's and bdc's as well. at least three servers on @ subnet should be running the service. hope this helps, and i hope i was right.
