Hey Guys thanks for the imput. I tried changing the memory, I have two 128m sticks of SDram, I tried just one stick at a time and still locked up. I borrowed 128m stick from a friend and tried that, but it did not work. I checked both sticks and they are identical. I don't have a heating problem, I've monitored the temperature via pc probe provided by the motherboard, recording the temperature 24-7 for a week and saw no spiking in the gragh or temperature readings. question what are the chances of three sticks of ram being defective, and wouldn't bad memory be detected at boot up. Thanks again i appreciate any all imput past and future

reposting a new thread doesn't give any backround to those joining the diag. by the way, memory is tested when you boot into safe mode [you have 98??] and the pc tests himemory [the ram]. usually hold down the ctrl key on boot up before the windows splash screen to get the boot option box.
