View Full Version : Freezes On Idle

My computer continuously freezes after being idle for more than an hour or so. This occurs whether or not I have the screen saver enabled.

After the computer sits for about one hour, I move the mouse to re-activate the machine, and the mouse pointer DOES move. When I move it to an icon to open a program, the machine then freezes completely (no mouse, no keyboard repsonse, etc.) I try CTRL-ALT-DEL, but this does not work either. I finally have to just manually power down the computer and power it back up.

I am using a Pentium II MMX, 233 MHz, 64M RAM.

Any ideas?

I can throw some things up in the air like:

1. Heat issue, but not if you reboot and right away all is fine. If so, what type of cooling do you have, passive or active (heatsink and fan).

2. Power management settings in Control panel or BIOS... What are yours?

I agree
Disable Power management settings in Control panel and BIOS and see what happens.

I disabled all the power management settings (everything is on all the time), and I have not had a lock-up in more than a week! Thanks for the help.
