I have a system on the way over today. She says when she types on her keyboard, all she gets is "gibberish." I wondered if anyone has seen a virus that causes this, and remembers what it is.

Thanks,

Heck it may just be a problem with her fonts set to some crazy script...I'd check that first. I haven't yet seen a virus that messes with fonts but I'm sure there's something out there that would.

Yeah, I know to check that Blankman, problem i I have cleaned virii off her computer before. I am assuming she has another virus, and just in case I'm picking everyone's brains here.

Most of the Viruses which will cause FONT change are running on DOS - are usally very old ones - there are some which will cause the lettres to drop fromt he line where you typed it to the bottom of the screen otherones will double the letter you type.. but in this case I think she may had changed the International settings or keyboard settings somehow - and now it displays the wrong faults.. control panel will reveal the thruth..

Hpro,

Thank you very much for your reply. When I got the system, here is what I got:

-no virii (she actually followed my advice) I scanned with everything I have, including a scan from DOS

-the harddrive was 97% full

-no scandisk or defrag since the last time I did it nine months ago

-Temp file contained 153 megs worth of files

-her son had removed 64 megs of the RAM and put it in his system, leaving her with 32 megs

-the same printer had been loaded five times

-every type of ad-based spyware one could imagine was installed

-etc etc

I reformatted it and added RAM, it's running great. It's a SE440BX-2 w/PIII 450, now has 192 megs of RAM.

Oh, the keyboard problem turned out to be half a can of Pepsi.

Do you know what the file extension was on the Pepsi Virus? Was it Pepsi.jpeg.vbs, Pepsi.exe, or Pepsi.can?

Actually it was spiltby.retard

Don'tcha just love novices? Up here where I am from, I get computers all the time that just have a virus or need a good defragging. The other day I had a laptop with a busted LCD screen because the rube left it in his pickup overnight and the temperature got down to -35. Easy $$. Thankfully I am an honest person, or I could really take some people for a ride.
