Using TweakUI you can set it to automatically delete the files at startup.

i can't find advanced on my tool bar as [taskbar] right? with your idea in mind, i found taskbar in settings and found a start menu button to delete documents and other personal history lists. still i wonder why i don't have your shortcut. thanks.

Because of you may selected wrongly..

Taskbar is the bar at the bottom of the screen - now to make sure that you get the right one, right click about in the middle of the screen on the TASKBAR - select PROPERTIES select ADAVANCED - Click on CLEAR.. this is the same for Win9X - up to WinXp..

thanks for clearing that up alittle hpro. earlier advice didn't mention properties before getting the advanced screen. even funnier is that when i enter the properties, i get the taskbar settings with the start menu tab on top but still no mention of advanced button found anywhere. when i enter the start menu tab then i get the clear button for documents and there is a advanced button above but it doesn't do what i want, only the clear button is what i want. thanks for all help. computers have way to many details to ever remember them all.

Yea you are right - when I posted back I was on Win2K - and there it is actually same except that it shows the advanced buttom right on when selecting properties - as for Win98 you will have to select the start menu and then clear - as you wrote..sorry to have caused confusion..

As suggested, get TWEAK UI and just get rid of the documents menu altogether.

actually, i have tweakui on my pc but i like to do somethings myself so i know how to do them, but in this case i'm tempted to set this up as automatic thru tweakui. still it's nice to know how in case a friend wants to know and i can't just say [get tweakui] to help them on the spot. thankx all and it's nice to know that hpros advice was different because of his win2k op sys. way to many little differences to suit me.
