I would like to completely wipe out my hard drive and install Windows clean...not do a clean install of Windows. Can I run Fdisk and accomplish this? If so, when I boot for the first time, should I disconnect all my peripherals (sound, modem, scsi card, network card)...I have formatted new drives before, but am unsure if it is possible to reformat from Windows. Would some one explain how to do this??

Dan,

If the drive is already partitioned to the size you desire then all you need is a couple of things. First boot with a 98 boot disk and then use this [A:\Format c:]. This will comfirm your intent to destroy all data and type in Y and hit enter. after it is done insert your win98 cd in the drive and you can switch to your D:\ drive and type(D:\setup) and hit enter. After that just follow the prompts.

Yes, I would disconnect all cards except video of course and only use one CD if you have both like a burner etc...After the OS is up you can install one card at a time to eliminate headaches.

If you have USB devices plugged in thats the only thing I would unplug.
All you need is a startup floppy and the OS cd. When you reboot have the floppy iin and after that type format c:. After its done formatting you can load the OS.I get to the D prompt and type setup and it starts reloading, then from there its just a matter of loading device drivers in.
