I recently got a machine with Win 98, 850 celeron. I rant a DOS program then messed it up so it only started in that progrma, I was able to fix it. However, I now have two problems:
1. When I start, it always says "restarting Windows" or "starting DOS game" then it goes into Windows.
2. It now stays on the Windows start screen for 3 to 4 times longer then it did at start up.
I've checked the auto config files and such. Is there anything I can do other than reinstall Win 98?

How about a scanreg /restore and pick a good working registry before you installed the dos game. Boot to a dos prompt and use that command. Or, wait and see what other suggestions are brought up. HTH

I did do a scanreg. And check the autoexec and config files.
It looks like it is going off on a tangent for a bit, then comes back. I wonder if I can restore the start up sequence?

you can do a step by step load of system in sys configuration. its under the tool tab of sys information which is in the list with defrag etc. also, there is a key to hit just as the windows logon screen comes up to disable picture and see whats loading in backround. i think it's f8 to alter bootup and pick step by step load to see how things are loading.

When the windows logo appears hit the ESC key to view!
