I have Windows 98 with the typical Internet Explorer which I update occasionally.
I need to find out how to delete the drop down menu items that appear when typing in a web address. I'm talking about when you go to the top of the screen and click on "file", then click on "open".{I'm not talking about the regular address box visible all the time at the top of the screen.} At that time a window opens and reads: "Type in the internet address of the document or folder and Internet Explorer will open it for you". Now once you start to type the address, a drop down list of addresses appears that were once used before. This is what I want to delete.
The reason I want to do this is, there is an adult oriented site that I do not want exposed to younger people in my family. If certain addresses with letters similar to this site are typed in here, the drop down list shows this site address.
I know this is probably going to take some effort, but it will be worth it.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

If you want to delete the drop down list of web addresses you get when you hit Ctrl-L or Ctrl-O, you have to clear the browsers history by going to Tools...Internet Options...Clear History.

IS there anyway to clear the info for the Auto Complete and not clear your History?

I would like to leave my history files there, but clear the info that auto complete uses to try and finish waht you type.

ANswer to your last question is NO, but history is of very little use anymore and most of it is garbage. I keep mine set a zero. Also if you do not turn off Auto-COmplete it does no good to get rid of the History as the Auto complete entries will still be there and functional.

Thanks Guys.

I have my history set to zero, but it never clears the files. I can't figure out why.

Anyway Thanks again.

I like the history... If I'm at some deep page with a confusing URL that I can't find again, but know I was there, etc...

Well if you ever do want to keep the history and many things always clear on every bootup Click Here . Download it and install it. Then when installed go to Control Panel and execute Tweak. Then go to the Paranoa Tab and you will see a list of options of things to have cleared on reboot. The only issue I found with this is in a short amount of time your PC get really fragmented which in result effects performance. It depends what is important to you.

Auto Complete will override the History set to Zero, so you need to turn it off also.
