All big titles are getting sequels, why not Half-Life?

So did Half-Life. Besides the original Half-Life there are also Blueshift and Opponent Force.

I played Blueshift and opposing Force, but they had the same engine and story of Half-Life.

The last I heard was that there was going to be a proper sequel, don't know if that has changed. I haven't heard much about it lately.

I'm pretty sure there is going to be one though (I hope so).

half-life kicks so much @$$ that it doesnt need a sequel, make your own physics with OZ deathmatch, kill terrorists using real weapons in Counter strike, or do completely insane things with Rocket Crowbar. With Half-Life the possibilities are endless. :)

I have heard that Valve has had Half-Life 2 in the works for sometime. The rumour is that they are making an entirly new engine, but nothing definite yet.

The big news at next week's European Computer Trade Show (ECTS, 2-4 September) is the expected announcement Half Life 2 is on its way.

If that's the case, it will be a feather in the cap of the show, suffering as it is from the lack of Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft and Sega's presence .

More importantly, it would be great news for the millions of FPS fans who've been salivating at the prospect of another Half Life helping since the game first graced our screens an age ago in 1999.

Despite a host of mods and a recent add-on in the shape of the somewhat unsatisfying Half Life: Blue Shift, developer Valve has remained stoically silent over what, if anything, its plans are for the sequel.

Now, however, the games industry rumor mill is working overtime and the general belief is Half Life 2 will be ready in the first quarter of 2002.

With around three years to devote themselves to producing the sequel, Valve should have come up something special.

And it will need to be very special.

Many shooter devotees rank Half Life as the finest of its kind ever made, and the risk for Valve is anything less than another ground-breaking effort will be viewed as a disappointment.

No official word from the company or publisher Sierra yet, but the countdown to ECTS continues and we live in hope.
