Hope you can all be of some help here...
Here's my tale of woe and sadness:

Began last Sunday. Went to the Win98 updater on my Start Menu and took me to
Microsoft's Win98 Updates site. Had some useful stuff some I clicked it all and downloaded the lot. One of which was Intel's new ATA driver.

OK, now the trouble starts. Monday, after a night of my 56k downloading all this schizit, I pop in my AoK CD for some good ol' multiplayer on the Zone. Well, to my surprise the CD auto loady screen thingy never came up. After some checking I found my E(my CD) Drive was not to be found. It was physically there and you can put a CD in but it wouldn't do anything. I went to the Control Panel
then System, then Device Manager. My PC is mad at the Primary Ultra ATA Controller and Secondary Ultra ATA Controller.

It says the device is not present, doesn't have the latest driver, or is not working properly. Well, the device sure as heck is present and the new drivers are what caused it to go a-wol. I'm 95% sure its the new drivers that did this.

So in short, my Q is how can I uninstall the new drivers so my CD drive works? Cuz without use of my CD drive... my PC ain't too fun.

Gracias,
~Volkov

Your system does not use the Intel Driver it uses the VIA driver. Now since you probably cannot use your CD drives you will need to go to www.viatech.com and the download and install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers. This will cure your problems.
Now you have learned a very important lesson, namely never never, ever select the hardware driver updates off of the Microsoft Update Site. Only use the ones from the hardware manufacture's site.

 Wow...the Microsoft Windows Update site installed Intel ATA drivers for a VIA chipset? That's messed up. I wonder how many other people have had the same thing happen to them? This could end up being a huge problem.

Glad to hear it works. Remember I asked you if you had a VIA chipset: "No".
I think you should call up Microsoft and yell at them!
