I have a problem. My first problem is I can't stop screwing with things. Since I can't stop screwing with things, I tend to mess stuff up, which is what happened the other day. To make a long story short, I had things so messed up with windows, I fdisked my hard drive to start over with a clean install of win98. After the install of the system, when windows is detecting devices, I got this error, "RUNDLL32 caused an invalid page fault in
module RUNDLL32.EXE at 015f:0040104f.

Some of my programs will not load. I get a fatal error and have to shut down when I try to load Clonecd. I get this error when I try to load Office2000 or even my drivers for my mouse. ""MSIEXEC caused an invalid page fault in

I have looked it up on microsofts page, but I can't find that error. Is there a fix I can download for these errors or should I try to redo my hard drive again.

Hi useless_1,

Are these error messages blue screen messages? If they are, you may have bad memory (RAM).

If they aren't blue screen error messages, check these links:
MS Knowledge Base (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q138835)
MS Error Message Resource Center (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com/support/windows/topics/errormsg/emresctr.asp)
Rundll - Errors (http://www.generation.net/~hleboeuf/erundl32.htm)
Computer Help 911 (http://www.computerhelp911.com/windowscrahes.html)

When installing Windows, make sure you have your system down to the bare essentials...motherboard, CPU, heatsink, 1 stick RAM, video card, floppy, hard drive, CD-ROM, case and power supply. Install the expansion cards (sound, NIC) after Windows is installed.

What's up Cricket, thanks for the reply. These are not blue screen errors. Although I did get one during a restart. I found out that the MSIEXEC error could be caused by the Win95.cih virus, I found that on the ms support page. I have not ran an antivirus on this system yet because I lost my Innoculate file somewhere when I built this system a few weeks ago. Hopefully this will take care of the loading of certain programs. The rundll32 error pops up at random. Sometimes when I boot up my computer, it freezes before it completes. All you see is my desktop background and the cursor is an hourglass, then nothing else happens. I restart and usually it will boot up fine and run like a champ till the next restart. I will check out your links and I hope to find a solution.

Hi useless_1,

You got the Win95.cih virus on a newly fdisked and formatted drive? Did you clean off your system? Be careful of any floppies and burned CD-R's you've gotten recently. CIH is a nasty virus that can screw up your BIOS/CMOS chip and mess up executable files.

If you need a good free virus scanner, try FProt for DOS. You can get it here: FProt Download Page (http://www.f-prot.com/f-prot/download/getfpdosfree.html)

Here's a CIH cleaner: CIH Cleaner (http://www.pspl.com/download/cleancih.htm)

Your right, this win95.cih virus is nasty. I went out and got Norton
antivirus 2001. Installed it and found the virus right away and started working. I was choosing to "repair" each infected file. I hope that is the right decision. Last night I spent about 2 hours trying to clean this thing out(till the wife started wining about it being Valentines day and me being on the computer). Now it seems to me this virus affects every .exe file on my system. Is there any easier way to clean it than by the way I am doing it. I have to use windows explorer and open every file on my system and let Nortons detect the virus and repair it. This is taking FOREVER, I have a lot of stuff on my system.

Hi useless_1,

Have you taken a look at the CIH Cleaner in the link I provided? I don't know how it works though (I've been lucky as I've never gotten a virus or trojan yet).

The Symantec website is pretty good and might have another tool to make cleaning the .exe files easier.

Yup, here's the Symantec CIH Removal Tool: CIH Removal Tool (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/kill_cih.html)
Read the entire webpage as there's lots of info and instructions.
