Maintenance problems

I am having problems running the scan-disk and the maintenance programs on my pc. and the disk-dfrag. They freeze up and stop running. Can you help me?

I have a ME intel III, 56k Everex

you will experience less conflicts if you run these programs from safe mode. reboot the pc and hold down the ctrl key as you pass thru the bios. you should get a boot choice screen and just pick safe mode. hitting f8 just before you get the windows logon screen does the same thing but your timing has to be good. these steps work on win 98 and i believe should be fine on me as well.

AntiVirus programs cause a lot of these problems with scandisk, defrag, etc... Booting up to safe mode will work or you can try shutting down any AntiVirus programs before running the maintenance programs to see if that helps.

Before doing scandisk and defrag, I close all programs except explorer and systray. I have even closed systray, too. I never have a problem with scandisk and defrag that way. Give it a shot and see if it does better. :cool:

If I have a screen saver on, it will not work either, might be the same for you.
