Hello,
I am trying to install FreeBSD 4.0 on my old P166 box, but not really sure if the SCSI controller card is supported by the OS http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/frown.gif
The SCSI card is Buslogic FlashPoint LT (BT-930). Have anybody installed the OS with this kind of controller?
(I of course checked the freeBSD doc, and it doesn't seem to support it--but then I'm not really sure). If not, any workaround other than getting another kind?
Thanks for the help.

Hi Norman_S:
Re: the Flashpoint card, I know for sure that it is supported by OpenBSD and the BSD Driver Database makes me believe that I am not wrong [ http://www.posi.net/freebsd/drivers/hardware-list.phtml ] Its amazing that the mfg-er doesnt have BSD drivers for it http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/mad.gif
Flashpoint doesnt seem to be in favour among NIX-ers either... something to do with RAID not working too well [I believe .. these are on the basis of my recollection from what I have read].
Sorry, not to be able to pinpoint a definitive answer, hopefully another NIXer will pick up slack .. however, if you do get it to work, or get an error, would appreciate a followup post just so the rest of us no!
FreeBSD is AWESOME .. blows Linux out of the water for its speciality!

I use the flashpoint SCSI adaptor under Linux and have no problems and great performance.
I`ll have to "aquire" FreeBSD, sounds fun.

Hi Toaster:
The flashpoint does work on Linux from kernel 2.0.xx onwards .. BSD is a bit more picky abt hardware, for the 3.0 I heard of loads of probs with RAID
BSD is just too good to be true .. I thot Linux was great on servers but BSD is soo easy and so powerful .. it amazes me. Linux of course does a lot more than BSD. Try it out if u have a server.
I hope the original poster does get back to us, thats the only way we'll know if it works http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/smile.gif
Cheers

Here I am...
Have not done the installation yet. I'm planning to save the porting fun until this weekend. http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/smile.gif actually, I was waiting for some parts to arrived before the install (couple nics, and spare adaptec 2940au--I know this one is supported!!--in case FreeBSD burps on the flashpoint).
I'll keep you posted...
