I'm pretty sure this will be OK, but any thoughts gratefully recieved.
I've just been fixing a colleague's own PC (CD ROM hardware problems) and it has W95 with all that HP House rubbish installed. The hardware will easily cope with W98 and I have offered to do a full clean install. Colleague has nothing whatever on HDD that she wishes to keep. Is the HP bios likely to cause any problems with the new OS? I suspect not, but just checking.

Thanks,

Chris.

Hi Chris in U.K.

You may have already installed Win98(SE?) by now, but just in case you
haven't:

Is the machine an HP (Hewlitt-Packard) or Packard Bell? Sounds like a Packard
Bell, indeed, since you mention what sounds like Packard Bell "Navigator", which
is a cut-away view of a house - in the playroom you click on games to play them,
in the family room you click on the stereo to play music, in the office you
click on a pad of paper to open a word processor....augh...

The only question would be the video card and it's drivers, which on many of
the older Packard Bells of Win95 vintage, were already obsolete and don't have
any drivers beyond the Win95 versions.

Other than that Win98SE runs on just about anything, even old 486s (slowly).

[hmmm...now that I think about it, if it has a sound card/modem combo, those
drivers can be a bit strange, too... try drivers.com if you need a hard-to-find
driver]
