View Full Version : Too dark DVDs

This isn't a consistent problem. For instance, "The Mummy" is basically fine but "MASH" periodically gets lost in murk. So what am I missing here?
The monitor is a MultiSync FE700 that has given no trouble and the Radeon card returns near perfection in games and office apps, so what's with this?
Brightening the optimum default setting is the way I'd go if I was sure what the problem was.
Why would a system be nearly perfect in everything else and fail in this?

Try Downloading Screen Docter that should work
SOme times people have darkness My old computer used to do that its annoying

Looks like the program is extinct
Have you tryed turning your contrast right up on full and adjusting your brightnes ?

I'd been hoping to avoid that, but, if you can't, you can't.
At 2:00 Am I need sleep ( actually I needed it earlier but my reaction to finally annoying problems makes for late nights ). I'll post back at a more reasonable hour but your suggestion will be implemented!

When you say periodically, do you mean that it comes and goes within the movie? IE, one minute it's fine, the next minute it's too dark? Because if that is the case, that is a symptom of Macrovision, the anti-copy stuff built in to some DVD's.

that sounds about right. It's also the reason I was reluctant to fiddle with contrast and brightness. Is there any way around this problem? It's really annoying.

Well, if this is an internal DVD drive, it really shouldn't be doing that. Maybe Audiyoda or someone more knowledgable in the video field can give you some better advice than I can.

Actually, even if it's an external DVD drive and you have it going through your video card, it shouldn't do that. That's the way I have mine hooked up, and it works just fine like that.

Maybe you just have a bad DVD drive.

It's an internal drive. I do have a spare one I can swap it with if that's necessary.
