Geforce3 TI200

I am a casual not hardcore gamer, playing mostly flight sims: MS 2000, Propilot 99, European air war, WWII fighters, Flight unlimited and Redbaron. Having read several threads here, it seems the Geforce3 TI200 is a decent video card for a moderate price. Do you think this card would perform well with these games? Is a Gegforce a Geforce or is there a particular brand that stands out? Is this card available without the TV out feature for a lesser price? Alternative card suggestions also welcome. I'm running a P3 933MHz with 512 megs of RAM.

a Geforce 3 is a Geforce 3 regardless of manufacturer. They only differ in options really, DVI, TV out/in, S-Video, etc. Some might say that the Asus is far better than the Hercules or whatever, but if there is a difference it will me minimal as long as the cards are equiped(core&memory) similarly.

Now the Geforce 3 comes in 3 different flavors.

Listed (in terms of performance) is the

1. Geforce 3 Ti500
2. Geforce 3
3. Geforce 3 Ti200

Now the Ti200 is a good card, as are all of them. However, due to the recent announcment of the Geforce4 MX. I would say go with that. nVidia in all its wisdom is going to somewhat ignore the Geforce 3 lineup. Now the crown is going to the Geforce 4 Ti4600(avail. 03/04/02) and the value card is going to be the Geforce 4 MX400. The bargain card is going to be the Geforce 2 card or some derivative thereof. The GF3Ti200 is a great card, but for around the same price you can get a Geforce4 MX400 that will give you some additional performance.

of course the choice is always up to you.

There is another person here who loves flight sims as much as I do! I have a Gainward/Cardexpert GeForce3 Ti200 and it cost me $156+S/H and play FS2002 Pro with all of the settings at max with almost no prob unless you fly in the Rockies then the frame rates begin to take a hit. I also play CFS2 with all of the settings at max with no prob.

I would not suggest the GeForce 4MX. Not that it is a bad card, but the basic order is this:

GeForce2 MX>GeForce2 TI>GeForce4 MX>GeForce3 TI200>GeForce3>GeForce3 TI500

The main reason to take the TI200 over 4MX is that the TI200 is easily overclockable to the TI500 which is far superior to the GeForce4MX. My advice is to buy the TI200 and overclock it.

yea i was just about to say.... gf4 is a total POS .. although i'd take it if it was free

nVidia is gonna release the GF4 4200 a few weeks after the release of the gf4 4600, its sole purpose is to compete with the radeon 8500 for that price range, its like the gf3 ti200 now ... same thing as gf4 4600 just at lower clock speeds. So to sum it up i'd either get the gf3ti200 if u were buying now, or wait till the gf4 4200 comes out. They are the best buys.

I have the GF3 Ti200 and it overclocks excellently. The card is AWESOME.

I am about to buy the GeForce 3 Ti 200 also. Just wondering, how do you overclock this card? Is there a software to do this overclocking? or is it hardware tweaking?

I am thinking of buying VisionTek Xtasy 6564 Geforce3 Ti200. Is this card capable of being overclocked? If so, does a overclocking software come with it?


Also, if anyone has this card, does this card come with any software so that I can play DVD's?

Apparently, although I don't know firsthand, the Gainward GF3TI200 is designed to be overclocked and is more stable in an overclocked state. Plus they sell a model with 128MB of DDR, and that's plain sweet.

Get the Geforce 3 ti200 instead of the Geforce4 MX.
The Geforce 4 MX doesnt have programmable shading.
And as stated in earlier post the ti200 can be OC'd

The Gainward/Cardexpert card that I bought is actually called the

GeForce3 Ti200 - Power Pack Ti450 Goldensample. It is Gauranteed to be overclockable to Core Clock setting of 250Mhz and a Memory Clock setting of 458MHz ( The Ti200 settings are 175 / 400) which would be CLOSE to a Ti500 but not quite; so they are calling it Ti450.

Actually, Beerman, if you get the Gainward Ti450, the software and drivers that come with it are COMPLETELY easy to use. There is one button called "DEFAULT PERFOMANCE SETTINGS" (which run the card at 175/400) and another called "ENHANCED PERFORMANCE SETTINGS" (which runs the card at 250/458).

It's as simple as that.

Of course, you CAN also manually slide the frequencies over to your desired Mhz with a slider bar.
You MAY be able to crank this puppy up to the Ti500 specs : 240/500. I was able to do it - 'course, I also have an additional fan on the card...:D

Once again thanks for all the responses. Sounds so simple I can probably even do it. Newegg is where I was planning to buy it. The only hesitation I've had is that Propilot 99 requires Glide API support(is that the right terminology?) But other games will probably show a great improvement over my current Maxigamer Phoenix card.
