dual boot winME and Linux Mandrake

If you mean how to get started, that's simple enough. Defrag your hard drive first. Afterwards, boot to a Win98 boot disk, which needs to have some type of partition utility on it. I prefer FIPS and RESTORRB. You can find them for free on the web, run a search (don't have the URL off hand).

After you partition with FIPS (and back up your old boot image, which can be restored with RESTORRB, it's pretty self explanatory), swap to the CD ROM drive and start the install. Delete DOS partition number two, the one that you just created with FIPS, and install Linux there.

If everything goes TERRIBLY wrong, boot back to that boot disk, use RESTORRB to restore the old boot image, and start a full scandisk, you'll be back to square one.

You can find fips on the Mandrake CD in the dos ultilities folder. It works great, but as stated already, you MUST defrag your drive first to get consolidate all of the data that Windows likes to scatter. During the installation of Mandrake 7 or 7.1 you are given the option to partition the drive also. Let us know how it turns out.

I have to do it over again "I got this message Image file not found.... blah, blah, blah. I guess i am missing something.

I did it successfully with windows 98/linux mandrake, but not with WINDOWS ME/LINUX.

Doh, didn't see your reply, just checked back. What was the bad image problem? My first thought is just a dirty or scratched CD.

One thing I would do, though. After you've installed Mandrake, go back into Windows and run all of your apps for a few minutes, make sure everything works ok. Partitioning with an OS already on the drive, especially a 32 bit Windows OS that wastes drive space freely, is always dangerous. Make sure all's well before you get to configuring Linux and have to reformat and reinstall, forgetting what you've configured http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/wink.gif.

It's the error message when you boot up for the first time after the installation.
I figured out why, I failed to create the partition prior installation.

It works after following your instructions.(on FIPS and RESTORRB)
