I have installed Red Hat 5.0 & worked w/ Mandrake/Xwindows and find Linux to be quite frustrating. I know basic commands and switches and can navigate & install, but have not found any good documentation on compiling. I have linux unleashed and frankly find it starts general and gets too specific fast. Can anyone recommend a site or book that has simple labs that I can can work thru. The best method I have found for this is to start w/ simple labs & grasp the concepts early. thanks in advance.

My first book was "Teach Yourself Linux", by Steve Oualline (I think?). The name is close to that anyways. It currently sells with Red Hat 6.1. It covers basic everyday functions and configuration very well. If you decide to pick it up, you should be fine on your own after you outgrow the book.
