Hi duckman89,

if I were you and I had the cash, I would buy the Radeon All in Wonder 8500. But that's my preference...

The 8500 is 2nd best on the market right now, but the GF2TI is a good budget card.

I think you'd see a MAJOR difference if you went to the 8500, mainly because it's based on a newer, better GPU, the RADEON. Any Radeon set beats the tar out of old Rage chips. Whether you'd see a big difference going to a GF2TI, I dunno.

I could be wrong but I heard the latest ATI card (is this the 8500) was beset by some very serious driver issues... This may be the cost paid for going for the 'latest and greatest' as soon as they are released (as well as the actual cost in cash!!!).

Unless you're one of these hardcore gamers who have to have the latest I'd stick to something tried and tested. I've got a 'measly' GeForce 2MX with 32Mb SDRAM and it certainly seems to do the business - the T&L support also means that with any game that supports it a lot of pressure is taken off your processor - I had it running on a P2 400 with 64Mb RAM and could run new games with T&L support that had higher required minimum specs...

So I'd go for the GeForce 2 (or 3 if you do want the latest (though it does cost))... One thing I will say for Nvidia is that their drivers (don't use the board manufacturer ones) are well up to scratch...

I'm not dissing amk, just thought you should have another perspective and to be honest I don't know that much about ATI cards.

My m8 upgraded from the GF2 to the ATI, so he obviously thinks that's better, I've been round and theres really no visable difference. Although if u were running a more damanding game such as MOH:AA ud see a gulf in quality. The Radeon is the better card, he has no driver issue to report either!

I used to have a ATI Rage 128pro and upgraded to a Ge-force3 ti200 and my games run awsome now i can probablly get a with the highest settings if i wanted to with lag rarely popping up.
My opinion id go with the all in wonder over the geforce 2 if you have the money.
ge-force 2 is a good budget card like you read earlier but i dont know if it would help you. =P

I have the Radeon 7500, play UT a lot, and it rocks. Could just about imagine what the 8500 could do for me.
I would get the 8500.

I have no issues with the current drivers for the 8500, however my refresh rates were limited to 85 hertz until I updated my monitor drivers now I can run refresh rates up to 100 hertz. This card rocks I’ve only started playing games and with MOH it is fantastic!
I would go with the 8500 if you can part with the cash.

eh...another "vs." moment: go geForce.

i had a radeon 7200 - and i never figured out how to make it work in Linux. Apart from that, i think they still don't have good drivers for xp and w2000 for that matter: 60hz OpenGl refresh rates - or did they fix that?they did? took them what, like two years...

So this is what i think: if u want stability, overclockability, good driver support and if u just wanna cut the amount of tylenol u buy monthly, go geForce.

Plus u have a huge choice of makes with geForce - so u can make sure u get the best vid. memory on your card.

I have the Radeon 7500 AIW. Man I love this card. It's great for TV, and it comes with a remote. It's 3D is excellent, and I am running WinXP. I have had no problems whatsoever with drivers or anything. So I would highly recommend the ATI card. I have never actually used a Geforce, but being a former 3dfx fan *tear* *sniff* I have never really had a very good opinion of Nvidia stuff. That, however, is some major bias rearing it's ugly head. Anyway, I love my ATI Radeon!

I'd recommend the ASUS GeForce2 Ti card just because I'm an nVidia nut. I stick with what works... and nVidia always has new drivers (sometimes once a week).
