I've heard that there is a cable available to connect your stereo system to your computer. I would like to transfer my records to CD. Is this possible and what is the name of the cable and where can I get it? PS: I have a CD-RW. Thanks in advance. RAY

Seems to me you would need a cable with 2 RCA plugs on one end and a mini stereo phone plug on the other. This will let you run from the tape output jacks on the stereo to the line input of your sound card (this assumes the line in jack is *stereo*). You will then need software to record to a .wav file. The cable is prolly available at Radio Shack, but I am not well versed on software to make this work.

yup, glc's right
I've got such a cable from Radio Shack for like 5 bucks or something
It's got RCA (red/white) plugs for the stereo output and 1/8" stereo plug on the other end going into the soundcard. I've used it for recording from a Tascam 4-track tape as well as standard cassettes for burning CDs of live music with no problems. Should work fine for vinyl as well. there are lots of shareware programs out there for capturing/recording/editing. One place to find them is at www.tucows.com. (http://www.tucows.com.) Cooledit 2000 and supersonic are two good programs.
good luck.
