Tring to network win98 with win2000PRO

I am tring to network my 2 comp. one is a win98 with netgear ISA network
card model EA201c and on my win2000PRO I have a Linksys fast ethernet
10/100 network card PCI, model NC100U both connected to a Linksys 10/100 5 port
workgroup switch, now as per the device manager both cards are working
but can not connect to eather computer both workgroup are the same. In win98
computer i go to network neighborhooh the only icon that there is the ENTIRE
NETWORK and when I dubl ckl on it i get UNABLE TO BROWSE THE NETWORK. THE NETWORK IS NOT ACCESSIBLE. FOR MORE INFOMATION, LOOK IN THE HELP INDEX AT THE TOPIC "NETWORK TROUBLESHOOTER" well I did that and still no go....now in my network config this is wath is under THE FOLLOWING NETWORK COMPONENTS ARE INSTALLED:

A few things come to mind.

First, make sure file sharing is turned on both computers. You should find that option in your network options.

Also, I suggest you ping the ip address of each machine. Make sure you have basic connectivity first. If you can't ping, forget network neighborhood and figure out why the 2 machines can't see each other on that level.

Hi first are you trying to share an internet connection? if not and
the boxes don't use modems you don't need the aol dial-up. if you plan to
share the internet then leave them alone. are you running Novell
that's what IPX/SPX is for so if Novell isn't running you don't need it
now with what you have the only place that you need to be is TCP/IP for the
Netgear nic EA201 set the IP address with the subnet mask and the default gateway now do the same
on the linksys nic same place TCP/IP reboot. If you already did all of this
and you could access either box. then the next question is the big one what
type of cable are you using. If I understand you right this should help and
if you want to try the other suggestion to ping the address go to run and
type Command this will open a Dos window this is were you type the ping
Command to test your connection good Luck

ok first this is for home network.
yes the workgroup are both the same.
and yes i want to shair internet conn. with modem now do i leave
the phone cable coon on both comp.
and yes the shair ck box is cked.

Hey how's it goin' you need to pick a machine and
set the sharing from that machine the connection
wiz will make one machine server and the other
client. You don't need to have both connected to
the phone and even if they stay connected there
shouldn't be a problem. just when you go to set up
on the machine that isn't using the modem, your
connection is through the Lan not the dial-up. how did
you do with the IP/subnetmask and the default gateway:D

Have you assigned an IP to each machine? If so can you ping each other?

Also, I don't know if this still applies or not, but internet connection sharing with AOL cannot be simultaneous. The AOL network only allows one screen name from each account to be logged on at once. I also found that even though there is an active connection, the computer that is not directly connected to the internet (not the gateway computer), if the connection is through AOL it will not access any outside resources. That was a few years ago, so I don't know if it still applies today.
That's just something to think about.

I hit a similar networking problem when i was trying to network two windows me computers with my win 2k computer. the win me's couldn't browse anything on the win 2k computer. they all had valid IP addresses, and could ping each other, but actaully accessing each others resources wasn't working. I see you have NetBEUI installed on the windows 98 computer, but is it also installed on the 2000?
