View Full Version : Scanner on the blink? Yellow streaks..........

All of a sudden,
Our UMAX Astra 1220p scanner is leaving vertical yellow streaks on all scans that we do. They don't appear in any consistent location or width. Sometimes they aren't there at all. Could this be a software conflict or is it finally going to die after 5 years?

Thanks in advance,

You probably need a new bulb.

Thanks Hal
hhmmm, sounds simple enough!

...don't suppose you know a good place online to get a replacement bulb do you?

:D

Thanks,

If it's the bulb and you cain't find one locally, they have them here.

Well, thanks for the help. $30 for a bulb - or $59 for a New Astra 6400 (w/firewire)

...hhmmmmm....

If the Astra is much faster and you have the firewire port..., well it wouldn't be much of a decision for me. Then again if you don't have the firewire here is a link that Jenni gave earlier http://shop2.outpost.com/product/2801194/

That seems a bit pricey. We changed a bulb on a UMAX (don't remember model #)last year with a standard flourescent bulb available at the local Canadian tire for less than $6CDN.

Thanks for that info HAL. I have a HP and it looked to me like a standard flourescent. So if mine ever goes bad, and I can find the size, I will try a regular flourescent before trashing.

That's just a REGULAR FLOURESCENT bulb in there?!?!?!?

WHOA.

You're awesome.

...bu wait, I'm still working on convincing the wife we need a firewire 6400...

On a lot of scanners it's just a standard bulb. There are some that use a proprietary socket, and then others like my Canon that's a LED bulb.

You can buy a new USB scanner for $49 that will blow away that old Umax parallel port scanner in both speed and scan quality, look at the entry level Microtek models.
