Jim, it is Jim right? I have a cable modem, I don't know much about them so here's the type and model #. Manufacturer- LansCity, model # LCPET-3 it was installed by my cable company Mediaone roadrunner. Do you know where i can get specs. on it, my speeds are only around 60k/s-100k/s and from what i've read that seems slower then it should be. Thanks reboot and remember I'm a novice really so if the question seems confusing or stupid I apologize.

When I said that dl speeds were 60-100 k/s I meant on a good day they may reack 100k/s. but here is what it say's about this modem.

The Bay Networks 2 way cable modem requires a NIC (Network Interface Card) card. This NIC card will be provided at the
time of installation. The NIC card connects to the LANcity LCP via a RJ45 Cat. 5 cable. This modem is designed to
communicate at 10MPS in both directions. The modem also requires a separate power supply (not shown). This is also
provided at the time of installation.

60-100k/sec is just flying on cable. No problems at all.
Do a local FTP download (from your ISP if possible, or one really close (less than 3 hops), and it will scream!
There are lots of @home users that only get 30-50 so smile, and make a small sacrifice to roadrunner. http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/wink.gif

Thanks reboot, I wasn't really too concerned because it does fly compared to dial-up, but the only reason i asked was because I hear people talking about 3mps downloads and complaining when it slower then that??

I've gotten speeds up to 150k average (tops out at 250). I'm using @home, but I'm pretty sure I'm the only one on my router. Remember, the more people on your router, the less bandwidth you enjoy.
