View Full Version : 2 Mice at Once?

Hi All!!
I am trying to get 2 mice to work on one computer at the same time. One is a Microsoft wheel mouse and the other is a Fellows infra-red pen. Both devices will run on P/S2 port or serial port.
So far I can only get them to work one at a time on the P/S 2 port. The device manager says that the serial mouse is detected and is working properly, but I can't get any input from it. I even tried to setup a new profile in device manager with one of the ports disabled, but that didn't work.
Perhaps it can't be done?
I'm running '98FE with the servicepack installed.
Thanks Much!!!

I have a Win98 system with a big ball mouse and a reg 3 button mouse.
One is on PS2 other on com 1.
Might try to remove all mouse drivers and then reboot.
Some mice have a switch on the bottom.

Hi Oscar,
Thanks for the reply. I've tried deleting both mice and letting windows try to redetect them both. No luck.
The PS/2 port just seems to override the serial mouse.
Personally, I hate the pen, but my wife is a drafter/graphic artist so she loves it.
I'm just gonna have to drink a little more scotch and think awhile more. http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/smile.gif

Might try adding the serial mouse by adding new hardware.

Hi Again Oscar,
I've done that several times. That is how I can get windozs to detect the serial port mouse. The device manager says it is there and working correctly. I just can't get any input from it. http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/frown.gif
There are no switches on either mouse, so thats out.
Perhaps I need to manually assign interupts for the serial mouse?

I have a mouse, and a pen, both serial in Win98. I plug in the serial mouse as usual at COM1, and the modem at COM3 (default).
After that I just plug in the pen, one plug goes to the other serial port, the other goes to the PS/2 port (to act as a keyboard), reboot, and install the provided software, works fine...

Hi robo555
Thanks for the reply. I tried manually putting the serial mouse on com1, but same thing. It finds it, but I can't get any input from it. I've checked every thing, all connections, drivers, even been in the bios to check. everything says it should be working, but no input. I geuss I will just have to live with it until I build 2nd 'puter for myself.
