hey, i guess this is a stupid question but i've always wondered if you can mix and match components like you do with you computer. i want to go wireless internet within my house b/c my little brother downstairs want's to get online to with his computer. i have cable. i have a Linksys 4 port cable/dsl router in my room, routed to my sister's room with a 25ft Cat5 cable. yeah, it's pretty ghetto but doesn't bother me. i can't fish a wire to my little brother's room so i want to go wireless. problem is the price of access points and wireless adapters. linksys one's are pretty expensive. i've found some cheap, d-link, belkin, and netgear ones. i'm wondering if i can hook up a d-link or any other namebrand access point to my linksys router and then use a wireless network adapter in my brothers computer and still have it all work? is it possible? thanks.

Yes.

yes, so long as they are all running the same protocol, which, in this case for wireless is 802.11b, also known as Wi-Fi, not 802.11a which is a different protocol, and not compatible. I would not worry too much, 99% of what you see in stores today is the "b" standard, not the "a"
