Verizon Online and D-Link 704p router. I can connect to the internet just fine running the modem straight into my computer, but when I try to run it through the router, it won't connect to the Net. According to the status lights on my modem & router, everything is fine. The network between my two comps is up and running, so that's not the problem, since both comps can ping each other and the router. I've set the router to pppoe, entered my account info, and set ip detect to auto, and I've also tried tweaking my settings on I.E. but NOTHING works! Please help. Don't mean to whine but I've been at this since noon today and it's really p'ing me off

Thanks, for any help

P.S.
FYI, anyone, especially beginners, thinking of buying a d-link: CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED. The installation/user manuals are basically useless and provide no useful info on anything important. I'm still looking for the invisible troubleshooting section that the quickstart guide claims is supposed to be in back of the user's manual. And since tech support is available only 6-6 M-F, I'm stuck until then unless some kind soul here helps me out. I've had to figure out this whole thing almost on my own to this point anyway. If you, like me, are not %100 sure what you're doing, you will not have easy time. Just a word to the wise.

ok. i'm done ranting now. feel better :D

Have you looked for help here (http://support.dlink.com/products/view.asp?productid=DI-704P)?

Describe your network configuration. Your PC's should both go into the hub with regular CAT-5 cable. They cannot be plugged into Port 1 on the hub because that is the uplink port. The uplink port on the hub must use a crossover cable to the DSL modem. You use the term "router", however the DSL I have uses a modem. A router is usually used for cable or T-1 access to split the bandwith and USUALLY is not necessary for DSL. I have two computers networked together through a hub and then uplinked to the DSL modem.

Not sure about pppoe, have never used it, but with my router and cable modem, after I put the IP address on the router, I had to set my PC's up to obtain IP address automatically as the router will assign virtual addresses. Control panel, Network icon, TCP/IP associated with my NIC, IP Address tab and check box to Obtain IP address automatically, next click the Gateway tab and remove any installed gateways, then DNS configuration and check Disable DNS.

Next I had to Release and renew my IP address by running WINIPCFG (SMC Router).

Azscary you probably have a IP address for each PC, but with most providers it is cheaper to use one address and a router whether it be DSL, Cable, Satellite, ect.

Describe your network configuration.

Mine is a small, 4 computer, home network. The DSL I'm setting is up for all of us, but I needed a gateway router specially designed for DSL/cable to do that. The RJ45 cable that came with the router is running from modem to the router's WAN port. My comp is on port 1, the other comps are on 2-4. The computers can all see each other just fine, and I can connect to the Internet just fine, so long as its not through the router. That's about the extent of my configuration.

Are you able to use any of the info I gave you with pppoe?

Yes it did work. The problem was that my DHCP was enabled in the router but not in Windows. I also switched my IP detection from manual to auto. Release all, renew all, reboot, and now I'm replying to you through my new DSL connection. WOOooo! This is fast! Thanks for the help guys :)
