It keeps making this horrible "stripping gears" sound when it feeds paper. I cringe every time I hear it.

I think I'm gonna need a new printer very shortly. I would like to stay under $100. I know I can get a Lexmark Z53 for a little more than that, is it a good printer?

Also, I've had my eye on this one from Computer Geeks:

http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=PM200

Anyone know anything about it? I'm guessing that since you can't find PPM specs anywhere (not Lexmark, not Kodak, not ANYWHERE) that it is SLOW, but it isn't like the DeskJet722c is a speed demon...

Maybe you`re not happy with HP anymore but you might want to check out some of these. http://direct.mwave.com/mwave/ProdPTR-INK-HP.hmx?UID=&CID=&updepts=PTR-INK&DNAME=%3Cb%3EPrinters%2DInkjet%3C%2Fb%3E&Back=ProdPTR-INK-HP.hmx?

For the price i don`t think you can go wrong and you`re also able to view the detail specs.

BTW, I`ve bought several thousand dollars worth of PC stuff from Multiwave over the past few years and haven`t had a single problem. They`ve performed flawlessly. If only the PC, software and peripheral manufacturers could say the same.

I decided to go a head and order one of those Kodak printers from Geeks. It got here today. The thing doesn't work!!! It's awful, you can hear the print cartridges slamming into the left side of the printer as it tries to print. I'll scan the test page it printed (straight out of the box, not even hooked to the computer yet) and post it in a little while. You would think that "refurbished" stuff would be tested to make sure it really was working. Apparently NOT!

Hi Jenni,

I know this is a little late seeing as how you already got the printer, but you said you couldn't find any specs on that thing. Well, here's one review and it isn't pretty. They (CNET) said it takes the PPM200 over 18 minutes to print one 8 x 10 color photo and it's nowhere near flawless quality. If you want to read the article just for curiosity sake CLICK HERE (http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0-2375165-404-2734498.html) :)

Thanks for the link, but it really doesn't matter to me anymore: this hunk of junk is going back tomorrow, and I'm getting a REFUND. I think I'll stick with HP's.

Jenni, if you want to stick with HPs that's okay but a little food for thought. I've had a Lexmark Z11 for probably a year, maybe a year and a half, and it has performed flawlessly. My only gripe has been that it doesn't have the dual cartridge printhead (so one cartridge dries out most of the time from setting on the "keep your cartridge good and working" pad). My brother recently got a Lexmark (can't remember the number E 3 somethin'), anyway its dual cartridge and its fairly fast for a inkjet, good quality too. Whatever you choose its got to be better than that PPM200. Man, I couldn't believe that picture you posted. That is just plain terrible on their part. Oh well, hope you find a good one soon. :)

Jenni - check over at Sam's Club - they have a ton of discontinued HP 895C's for $100. That's a steal for that printer.

Click N' Pull shows them in stock at the Gulfport club.

Thanks for the tip glc. I would like to get that one for another reason too: it uses the same ink cartridges, and I still have a at least one new one that I haven't even opened yet!

But, at the moment, my money is tied up in the junk printer. I don't have a credit card, so I got my brother to order it for me. So he has my money, at least until Geeks gives us a refund. They are now sold out of that printer, so I'm hoping that solves any "swap it out for the same model" issues that might come up.

I hate to hear that your 722C went down. I've had mine for 3.5 years with flawless performance. I haven't been all that nice to it. I think your decision to come back to HP is a wise one.

S.O. and i also having a problem with the HP722C!!!
Starts to print and then gets about 3 inches into the page and just stops dead. This has been a very good machine during its life and we hate to lose it.
Any Suggestions???

That could possibly be a loss of communication between the computer and the printer. Does it happen in everything you try to print from, or only in a certain program? And is thr printer hooked directly to the computer, or is running through a scanner or switchbox?

My brother got an email from Computer Geeks today, it said "all warranty returns are handled directly by 888 Lexmark". So, at the moment, no I still don't have a printer. The 722c is still working at the moment, but who knows for how long!

He sent them another email, said "I think you must have misunderstood, I don't wamt a repair, I want a refund!". We'll see how far we get with that. I know one thing though, they don't even want him to call them...he'll melt their ears off for them!

glc, went to Sam's the other day, and no HP printers. The only one they had was a 900 series, and a couple of Lexmark's.

Talked to Computer Geeks yesterday, only way they will refund the money is if they charge us a 15% restocking fee! Which is bull, that's only supposed to apply to something that is returned just because I don't want it, in working order, which this printer never was. So, I'm gonna get back $50 of the $70 I spent, minus whatever I have to spend to ship it back...

Hi Jenni!
Here is scoop. 722 was working fine and suddenly it started to do the following: It begins a print job just fine. Gets about 3 inches into the printed page and stops dead. Locks itself up tight and has to be unplugged and the print job deleted from the printer folde.
It is currently connected thru the external Zip drive that seems to be working fine. I will connect it directly to an older Win 98 machine and see what happens. If that works I will try reattaching directly to the new XP machine and hope that works.
Will keep you informed.
Tell your brother I will be contacting him soon. Minor question on the Palm...

Jenni if your brother used a credit card, I would dispute the charges. You may be out the return shipping fee but that would be it. That is the beauty of credit cards, it keep the merchant honest.
