When I try to print, the error "Out of Paper" comes out even though there's nearly half a ream of paper in its tray. the amber light just keeps on blinking. Any ideas? By the way, the owner of this thing just had the black cartridge refilled (a procedure i do not recommended). What happened was- after refilling the cartridge, they went to the printer toolbox to align the cartridges, that's when the problem began.

Any ideas?

Hello folks! :)

Here's a really helpful page for your HP DeskJet printer problems -

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/sampler/mechanicalproblems.html

I didn't know they had something like this.

Just in case some of you didn't know. :D

We run a lot of HP 600 series printers though our shop that people thought were trashed, but need about 15 minutes of TLC to clean them up a bit. All that we've ever had to do with them is clean the shaft the carrige rides on and wipe it down with some light oil. Wipe down the underside of the carrige as they quite often get gummed up with ink and dust which causes streaks on your paper. Finally, to use a scrubbing pad to break the glaze of the pickup rollers by simply holding the pad against the roller and turning the shaft. Once they get glazed, you have all kinds of feed problems including out of paper errors.

By the way, what would cause an HP Deskjet to stop printing half-way through a print job. Just want to know the "science" behind it. Thanks again HAL! :)

Here's a great little site for fixing most popular printers: http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/

They've got fixes for most of the common problems that plague printers.

fixyourprinter has a lot of kits. I've been to the forum, but didn't find it really helpful. Has anyone experienced their Deskjet printer just stop printing in the middle of a print job. Could it be a sensor problem, software problem, user problem (:D)? Thanks again!
