Need Help with Jumper settings!!

I have an Athlon XP 1700, (1.47GHz), and an ASUS A7V266-E MB. I"m at the place where you set the CPU External Frequency Selection DIP Switches. My choices are: 100MHz, 133.33MHz, or 140MHz.
I think I need 133.33MHz, is that right?

I just can't get the math to work out. It says that the BUS CLOCK multiplied by the Frequency Multiple, = the CPU's Advertised Speed(1.47MHz).

After this choice I need to choose the CPU Ratio Setting> Choices are: 8X, 8.5x, 9x, 9.5x, 10x, 10.5x. Can someone explain the math to me, and tell me what my settings are that will multiply out to 1.47MHz?

The multiplier on the cpu is locked,the only setting you need to set is the 133 fsb,or you can set it to auto detect.
If you plan to unlock the cpu,that's another story.
By finding the multiplier divide the speed of the cpu by the fsb.

Let me make sure I understand you....

So I should set the DIP switch for 133.33 right?

If I divide the speed of the CPU, 1470 MHz, by 133.33, I get about 11. They only give me a choice up to 10.5 on my CPU Ratio setting??? Is that close enough??? Please use the same terms they use in your answer if you can. If I understand this right, I'm going to set my CPU External Frequency at 133.33, and then the CPU ratio at 10.5. Is this right?

What I'm saying is the multiplier on the cpu is locked,it will only run at it's default(built in setting)therefore,no matter what setting you set for the multiplier it will be over ridden by the cpu,it's best to set the board to auto detect and set the fsb to 133.
Check your manual for setting the board to auto detect and see if you can change the fsb in bios.
If you insist on setting the jumpers for the cpu,the settings you've selected are close enough,there may be an addendum showing different settings for higher multipliers,you may want to check that out.

what does the manual say is default setting? The setting is auto but enter the bios to set 133fsb (i think) Once you post you will see on screen what this is, press pause to hold screen.

I don't understand why they have the Dip switches on their for setting the multiplier if it doesn't matter?? I assume "mutiplier" is what they call "CPU Ratio"?

This is the second ASUS MB computer I've built, and I can tell you the manual does not tell you much of anything. There is little guidance on what to set things at.
I'm using the jumpers, but I do realize I could use the 'Jumper Free' Mode and do this in bios. Is BIOS where I will set the "AUTO DETECT" you are talking about Alfie? I assume so.

Anyone else care to explain in laymens terms what's going on here, please do.... I appreciate the info.

Set the CPU External Frequency to 133.33. Don't worry about the CPU Ratio setting.

Those dip switches are there for those that consider the rated speed of the CPU is only the starting point.

I've selected the Jumper Free Mode, and then went into bios set it up there. Seems to be working alright.

Now I'm having a problem with installing Windows XP Home Version. I will post a new thread about that.
