Hi,

If you are pretty sure it's the usb port that is giving you trouble, I would remove the usb port from the hardware manager, ( in safemode of course ) and then let windows reinstall it. Then try to reinstall the camera drivers and software.

Hope this helps,

thanks for the reply! im possitive it,s the usb port giving me trouble
so i went out and bought a powered usd hub now i cant get that to work off either port but;>i can still use the working one port for both devices
aslong as i change between them everytime im going to use one or the other,
just would like to know what i can do to fix this problem,
and why when i have the usb hub connected theres a question mark
deside the generic device in the device manager,(usb port devices)
any help is GREATLY appreciated!
thanks
RJ

Ok,

We are going to need some hardware specs now. Without knowing what hardware you have, I would be leaning towards a hardware probblem. IF it was me, I'd think about getting an usb add-on card to replace your present ports completely. The hub won't work any better than the ports on the pc will let it.

For a cam, a self-powered hub is superior to the computers onboard ports.
The computers onboard ports only have 500 miliamps of power available between the two of them. A good self-powered hum can have as much as 1000 miliamps available for each port. Many times when you attach a cam to the onboard ports and have other usb devices the cam will not have enough power available and will show as an unknown device.
Additionally, if you are using a VIA based board, you may have to download and install the updated USB filter Driver from www.viahardware.com
Another excellant cam troubleshooting page is at the link below, it's from logitech but the steps hold true for all cams

Morris is right about the VIA chipsets, I got an ASUS P5a-b, great mb, but the usb was always a little iffy under Windows (solid as a rock with Mandy though, go figure).

But since you are using a powered hub and still having trouble, I am leaning towards maybe replacing the usb ports with an add-in card. I've got an old Acer that the usb ports have died on. And they were really flakey for a long time before they rolled over completely.

OOPS!

Just wanted to add, try the cheap and simple fixes first before spending cash.:D

Morris, thanks for that link, just used it myself!!
