DVD+R/+RW burner availability in the US

Hello all,

I know that they're already available in Hong Kong, but here in europe they'll be introduced in two weeks: The second generation of DVD+RW burners, also capable of burning DVD+R.

What I'd like to know is does anyone know if they're also available in the US or when they will be available in the US and how much they cost ?

I assume the price will be noticeable lower than here, and at the end of April I'll travel to Florida.
So I have to decide: If they are available in the US till end of April and lower-priced than here in germany then I'll buy the drive in the US, otherwise one week earlier in germany.
That's why I'd like to know about the availability.

I already visited the Best Buy website, but there are only the first generation DVD burners listened.
Apart from WalMart and BestBuy, what are other shops in the US to look for computer components ?

BTW, the particular drives that I'm looking for are Ricoh MP5125A and Philips DVDRW228.

I know how bad overseas people get the shaft on comp hardware, DAoC guildmates in Australia get the same thing, and sometimes have me buy stuff for em here and ship it to em via USPS ;).

Well, it doesn't matter if I buy it here or in the US, the only difference is the price. Usually the price is noticeably lower in the US, and because I'm gonna travel to the US in 4 weeks this would be the chance to save money.
I'm just not sure if they're already available in the US and how much they cost.

I can get them here in Canada and have been able to for a little while now. They start at about $700CDN. If I can get them, it shouldn't be a problem in the US.

sorta off topic but do the xbox dvds follow another standard than regular dvds?

RJ, I know my father bought one about two weeks ago. I cannot remember the exact model or price of the unit, but I do remember that he bought a 3 pack of DVD-R's for $33 US @ I believe 4.7GB.

I know I saw one for about $400 US, but cannot remember. I can check around the stores we have in Ohio. CompUSA, Circut City and see what they got and post back.

HAL, are you sure that the drives you can get are the Philips DVDRW228 and Ricoh MP5125A, and not the older DVDRW208 and MP5120A ?
Because my relatives in the US can't find them.
