I have a new box that I just built. I put a Linksys PCI NIC in it. Loaded the drivers, no problem. Set up the networking in Windows 98. I then connected the RJ-45 connector to the hub. No light came on the hub which would indicate to me a cabling problem. I check the cable and fix it but still no green light on the hub. It is an Intel Fast Ethernet 4-port hub. I then put the known working cable into the Linksys NIC and the light goes out. It is a 10/100 NIC so I can't seem to determine the problem. The two other computer going to this hub have Intel NIC's in them. To make matters worse, I can't seem to find a 3Com NIC that is in my closet somewhere. Any ideas?

Hi Mairving, have you try to ping the new Nic card? That will tell you if you have a working Nic card, if that works try to use another slot for that particular Nic card.keep us posted. http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/wink.gif

I changed out the NIC card to an ISA 3Com one. Same problems. I play around with it again.

Check the rj45 pins on the card. They somtimes get smashed down - try to jiggle and twist cable to see if that is the problem. Seems like bad nic.
