I'm looking for an inexpensive network management software package. I'm maintaining an NT network consisting of 70 nodes. I've checked into HP Openview but the price tag is way too high for my budget.
Any recommendations are welcomed.
Thanks.

Checkout Whatsup Gold from ipswitch
(www.ipswitch.com). Cost about $700
and you can download a 30 day eval.
We use it on an NT network to monitor all devices. Notification by e-mail, paging, etc.
I find it to be more than adequate.

Hmmmm, Never saw that happen before.

i know that cisco includes whatsup with their management platform in case an enduser does not have an HP openview box.

1) go to www.compaq.com (http://www.compaq.com) or www.digital.com (http://www.digital.com)
2) search for serverworks
3) download serverworks(4.3 ver), read the documentation, install it.
4) configure SNMP on all targets (ask if u need help with snmp)
5) get MIB for all the OS/apps u want to monitor and compile them
6) run an ip discovery or add targets manually (put correct communities)
7) shud work fine
8) what exactly you wat achieve fro nms .. bw monitoring then use Cricket .. the best tool
