Hello I am trying to set up a network between using two computers. Do i need tcp/ip? and do both the IP numbers and the Subnet mask number need to be the same for both?
Also is there only one type of network cable?
I also need general advice on how to configure windows 98 for a network having installed network cards on both machines.
Thanks
E-Andy..

Use your favorite search engine and search for Peer to Peer, you will get more than enough information to get you started. Lots of people have covered this at various sites very thouroughly.
Ok lets try it this way..cant seem to insert a link....oh html is off..whats up with that?
I had one and you can check it here http://www.makeitsimple.com/how-to/simple.htm
Have fun.

If you're not going to surf for both computer use netbeui instead of tcp/ip
There are 2 types of network cable, regular cat 5 and crossover cable. If you're connecting 2 computer without hub or switch then you would use a crossover cable.
