I have a computer at home and I want to use dialup server so that I can dial into it at home and retrieve files from it.

What's running on it? Windows 95? 98? NT?

On the machine where you DON'T want to get files from:

Go into Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Windows Setup and click on the Communications option. Click details and make sure "Dial Up Server" is checked. If not, install it.

Then go into Dial Up Networking and click on "Connections" on the menu. Select "Dial up server..." and select "Allow caller access".

Set a password if you want and just have the person set up a generic Dial Up Networking profile on the remote machine with whatever protocols you're using (I'll assume NetBEUI is running w/ MS Networking). I believe they can use any user name/login that they want.

Then make sure on the target machine (the one where you want to transfer files to/from), you have the appropriate shares enabled. Then, when your remote user dials into the dialup server machine, they should be able to browse the shares, map a drive, and move files back and forth.

I've never had to do it, but you may be able to share directories off of the dial up server machine and map to them too.

Either way, you've got a starting point. Have fun!

In order to see the other computers on the network, you all have to be on the same workgroup.
