After installing my new network card. Win98 just sits on the start up screen for ages doing nothing. the LED's on the back on the network card flash like it's trying to acess the netork. (they continue flashing while i'm doing other stuff, playing games etc.). this is very anoying. I only use my card to play games every few weeks. it is not connected to a network permenatly. Please help.

That's just one of the great extras of installing a NIC into Win98. If you're only going to use it for occasional gaming, maybe consider a USB network adapter. Then you could unplug it when not in use and speed up your boot time.

If it ain't broke, you're not pushing hard enough!

I don't mean just a small delay - it sits there for a couple of minutes. Also my friend has the same network card and does not have this problem.
This will happen when you have TCP/IP bound to the network card using DHCP to get an IP address, and there is no DHCP server there to issue the IP. The card keeps trying to grab an IP from a nonexistent source till it times out.

If what glc said doesn't work maybe try hosing off windows. Get a registry cleaner. This may or may not help.

Well, I'm off to go look for myself. If I should get back before I return, tell myself to wait for me.
