Network Card Problems Please Help!!

I have just bought a network card a:
NDC 10/100 Fast Ethernet Card:
When I turn the computer on it detects the card and asks me to install the drivers i do this and when it finishes installing them the computer hangs and I have to push the reset button. I was told to look at my IRQ settings i did this and found out my modem uses's the same IRQ as my network card they both use IRQ 10 is this the problem? and how do i sovle this? Thanks....

Just how long does the system hang. I have seen systems pause for as long as 2 minutes during the install. The system appears to be frozen, but given the time, finishes the install. I have also in my experience noticed that whenever you do anything network related (install drivers, add/remove protocals, add/remove services, etc) DO NOT reboot when it asks you to. It seems that the system will sometimes hang under Win98 and almost always under Win95. It is best to answer NO, then use START > SHUTDOWN > RESTART THE COMPUTER.

I have already tried putting the card in another slot but it still hangs.. I have left it to hang for more than 30 mins and still nothing.. I'm no expert but i think its got something to do with the IRQ becuase when the card is in the machine My modem screws up and won't dial but its fine as soon as i take the card out.. Both my modem and card share the same IRQ #10....
Or do I have to change settings in the bios?
Please Help its driving me mad....

Try this.

Go in the BIOS and change one of the BIOS setting that is named "PNP OS".

Change it to "PNP OS not installed"

When you change it to No PnP OS installed, it make windows use the IRQs determined by the BIOS.

I tried it but it still hangs but this time after 1 min of me letting it hang it flashed with a blue screen saying ''Cannot write to c: drive files may be lost or curupted''??
Is there any other options to try turning on in the bios?

I have also used the program SANDRA which checks your computer for various things and it told me one of my PCI Steering things was turned off.. just thought I 'd tell you..
My network card is not in my computer at the moment becuase it screws up my modem but it would be at IRQ 10 if it was...

First of all, remove Com 2 from device manager and disable it in CMOS. Then go into the setup/properties for the sound card and see if there is an option to set the Soundblaster emulation to share IRQ with LPT1. If not, no big deal, but if this is the case you *must* disable Com 2 to free up an IRQ.

You didn't tell me which slots your cards were in. So, I will tell you which slots to put them in........

Leave PCI slot 1 open.
Put the sound card in Slot 2.
Put the NIC in slot 3.
Put the modem in slot 4.

Ok I understand most of that but could you tell me what CMOS is and where too find it..
I have heard of it but don't know what it is sorry...??

The CMOS is your BIOS setup. Usually hit DELETE on startup to get into it.
