Hey guys, I have a lot of questions today. Me & my roommate have a cable modem which pulls a dynamic ip address. In addition we have a small lan(4 computers)running in our apartment which runs off static internal ip's: ig: 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.x, ect.. The server is connected to the cable modem & pulls an ip. The servers internal lan ip is 192.168.1.1. The server is runnning 602 Lan suite for the proxy server. The host computers are running off this software; which works ok. We are trying to insure that we do not broadcast network traffic to our ISP cable company; does anyone have experience setting up proxies in this manner? It seems as if we are still broadcast the server ip: 192.168.1.1.

Before getting Win98se I was using my Linux box as an internet connection sharing server. In order for it to work, I had to assign static IP's to all the computers on the internal network (192.168.0.xxx). It always worked fine for me, never had any problems with IP address broadcasts or anything. The only reason I use ICS from WIn98se now is adding computers is much easier. No setup required assuming they are set to assign an IP automatically. I don't know if this helps at all, but just maybe...

Well, I'm off to go look for myself. If I should get back before I return, tell myself to wait for me.

Broadcasting 192.168.1.1 is not a problem - that's a standard private IP and is meaningless to the outside world. Just make sure you have file and print sharing turned OFF on the connection to the outside world.
