Yahoo Messenger Flooding

Someone is flooding me on yahoo instant messenger. I log on and all of a sudden, there are a bunch of conference requests--from and to me, and my friends list gets loaded with numbers and my screen name. When I click on the number, it says that it's a group of some sort. I clear it all out, log out, run virus check (PC-cillin..doesn't find anything). Then log in again under invisible mode. When I turned invisible mode off, a few minutes later, it starts up again. Finally I just uninstalled the program, but I intend to reinstall it.

So here is what I am wondering:

1. Do I have the term right, am I being "flooded"?
2. I there any way to stop it if I reinstall the program?
3. Does this kind of personal attack lend itself to a trojan, or some other kind of "nasty" that would send back personal information? I checked my cookies folder and saw something for "spylog.com". I'd never seen that in there before. Also I read something about hackers being able to install something that records the keystrokes of a computer user, then sends it back to the hacker. So I'm kind of freaking out here:)

My only lines of defense are a SMC Barricade router and PC-cillin that I run daily. I don't currently use a firewall, however after reading some other threads, I just downloaded that free sygate prog. See what happens.

Any insight? I'm really very concerned about this. I'm afraid to do anything on my computer that involves a password to any of my accounts. :(

Your getting spammed and this has been happening on Yahoo messenger lately. I have a friend that got over 800 spam messages for a gay porn site in one hour. Go to yahoo and contact the admin people, they do not take kindly to this.

Maybe I should give a little more background:)

This guy starts talking to me. I don't talk back. He proceeds to say, "F*** you for being mean to me." I immediately put him on ignore. I don't tell him. I don't confront him. I go on about my business. Next thing I know, I'm getting slammed with conference requests (one such conference request calling me lovely names), requests to see cams, requests to view cams. All of them from "me" to "me". My friends list is just a repeat of my screen name and groups only named as numbers.

I go to the task manager to end program. Log back on under invisible mode to clear out friend list. I step out of invisible mode, a few minutes later I get the same onslaught like before all over again. Finally I uninstall the program.

Per your advice, I contacted Yahoo about it. Thanks. I didn't take down they guys name because I didn't think there would be a problem. But I did give them part of the name (for whatever it's worth).

So my main concern is getting this stuff to stop, and I'm wondering if that kind of think dropped a trojan on my computer without me knowing about it.

Geez...I should have typed this message the first time!

Go here Download and install Swatit Free Trojan scanner and run it. Be sure and update the definitions after it is installed and before you run it.

Hopefully by now you have the problem sorted out. There are lots of script kiddies playing games with yahoo messenger. What you have described is one of the more recent things they are up to. If its the same person getting you, then you can apply a permanent ignore by opening a PM window and ignoring from in that window. Also check your preferences in messenger, and see what options are available. Another option is to chat using the your web browser. It isn't as elegant, but it does stop the jackasses from booting you. Another alternative is to try yahelite, however, it is an unofficial yahoo chat client and still not as nice as messenger. Last option would be to change your ID.

Some of my latest tirades around the homefront have been over AIM, Morpheus and Kazaa. Having 3 pc's networked has made me overly protective, I guess. I recently found over 300 spywares using Ad Aware, one pc had over 20 viruses, despite firewalls and updated virus programs.

Thursdays and Sundays being my only days off, I usually spend them "cleaning up".

Just put him in your "Ignore" List and problem solved.
