hey guys,

has anyone heard any news on Mac porting OS X onto the pc? there were a tonne of stories circulating about this last week. I, for one, was very intrigued by this possibility.

after hearing the privacy issues related to windows xp (ie. media player recording the movies played on your pc) i become weary of upgrading. in fact, i'm seriously leaning away from xp after hearing this and similar stories. i've considered linux, but the compatibility issue, as well as the lack of applications and gaming support has made me hesitant. os x would provide a powerful, easy to use, and widely supported alternative to xp.

so, has anyone heard anything more about this? what do you guys think about the possibility?

i guess a side note is, what about these privacy issues that have been arising lately regarding xp?

Yea... I think it was Xayd who posted about it some time ago. I downloaded it and have it in my collection of CD's somewhere. It supposedly works on an Intel BX chipset system only.

Here's the link. (http://www.opensource.apple.com/)

do you mean the open-source port? i think it's called darwin?

that's not what i was referring to. in recent articles there have been mentionings of apple officially making os x available for the pc. mingled in these rumours is a possibile connection between amd and apple for future x86 based apple computers.

i was just wondering if anyone had heard anything more on these stories, or if they were just speculation.

Hi Ryan,

There was a good article on the subject a week ago:

http://www.viahardware.com/applex86_1.shtm

From what I've read, it's just speculation right now and there are no real plans by Apple. Their conclusion...
It’s Possible—but Don’t Hold Your Breath.
