98se screwed up

ok the system on my computer is really screwed up. i was testing some servers stuff (using PWS and DNS2go) and then suddenly it wouldnt let me open IE. also the icons on the 'my computer' toolbar were changed. thinking it was nothing, i rebooted the computer. i could see my desktop, but right after the startup music a message pops up saying Explorer has caused an error or whatever. if i close the dialog nothing happens. in the ctrl alt delete window there is nothing.

first i started in safe mode, windows loaded and i got the safe mode dialog notice, but passed that it did the same as before. then i booted with startup disk and reinstalled windows. when that was finished it started and the same thing as before. i am really stumped here!

............. the msg is: explorer has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. if the problem persists contact the program vendor.

Hi erucader,

Did you try uninstalling those server programs?

Have you tried restoring the Registry yet? Get to the c: prompt and type "scanreg /restore" (without the quotes) and hit Enter. Choose a date from before the problem started.

i cant exactly uninstall the programs because i cant get into windows. i think it was pws that messed it up because it stopped working when stuff when screwey
