Hey,

Seems like this has popped up before on this forum, but I can't remember where!

My understanding is that although Win98 'sees' all the RAM you load, it will only utilize the first 128MB!

Can some one please confirm this?

Thanks,

Larry

i think it only utilizes the first 512MB, but i'm not totally sure.

Windows will use as much memory as the mobo can see, and as much as it needs. Meaning, if it does not need more than 128MBs to run itself and the other programs, then the remainder is left as available.

At and above 512, some PCs have problems when vcache steals all the virtual addresses, resulting in out of memory errors. The fix is easy by placing an upper limit on the file cache, then Windows runs happily.
