I overheard somebody saying...
"Windows ME, yeah, load of crap. But if you want to make it more stable you can install Office XP - it replaces some key files to newer versions"
Erm... truth please?

Never had stability problems on any WinME machine that I've sold, can't say that I've ever heard anything about the Office XP rumor.

I'm with HAL on this one. I use ME, and I like it just fine. The reason why ME gets raked over the coals is simple:
It sold a LOT of copies, to a LOT of amatuer computer users. People buying HPs, Dells, Gateways, and the like. Now, not only did it have a bunch of amutuers using it, but it got messed up with all the propietory BS from the Brand Name manufacturers. Put the two together, that spells trouble for a lot of folks who just don't know as much about computers as others.
Now, lets look at Windows 2000. Released about the same time as ME. Only it didn't sell nearly the copies of ME, and because it's designed for a business platform, it typically gets used by people that tend to have a bit more computer knowledge than the average home user.
Everybody talks about the stability of 2000, and while it IS more stable than ME because it was based on the NT kernel. I gaurantee that if it was bundled in lieu of ME for the general public to use in machines like Dells, etc., we would've been hearing "Win 2000 horror stories" all this time instead of ME nightmares.
