Hi,
Just a quick question. A buddy is donating his old computer and wants to wipe out all his old info. Can someone please tell me how to re-format the hard drive and will this wipe off everything for good?
Thanks
Dave

Check out this thread and follow some of the links. Cricket has also contributed some great sites on hard drive preparation. HTH

Hi Tongra,

To really wipe the hard drive, go to the hard drive manufacturer's web site and look for a zero-fill utility (or a utility that writes zeros to the drive).

If you just want to use format, restart the computer with a boot disk in the floppy drive. At the a: prompt, type format c: and hit enter. This will format only the c: drive, if his hard drive has more than 1 partition you'll have to format each partition separately. Repeat the format process at least 3 times.

Hey Cricket,

It seems to me that somehow we are always on the same page! Keep up the good work.
